Malaysia finish sixth after losing to Denmark
PETALING JAYA: Malaysia settled for sixth position in the Sudirman Cup after going down 2-3 to Denmark in a Division One play-off tie in Glasgow yesterday.
Despite the defeat, it was still Malaysia's best ever finish in the mixed team event. With the score at 2-2, the mixed doubles pair of Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Britta Andersen clinched the winning point for Denmark by beating juniors Tan Wee Kiong-Woon Khe Wei 22-20, 21-19.
Malaysia's points were won by men's singles player Lee Chong Wei and men's doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong.
Earlier, Hong Kong edged Thailand 3-2 in the relegation play-off.
Singapore and Japan will fight for promotion to the top division after both won their groups in Division Two on Thursday.
