Brazil takes one more step towards 2014

The Brazilian Football Association (Confederação Brasileira de Futebol, CBF) submitted today, Tuesday 31 July 2007, its official bid for the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ to FIFA at its headquarters in Zurich. FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, representing world football's governing body, received the dossier from CBF President and FIFA Executive Committee member Ricardo Terra Teixeira on behalf of the Brazilian bidding committee, formalising this important step in the process to determine the host of football's flagship competition.

"We have seen in the past days how football can bring joy and hope, and how it can unite people, with the victory of Iraq in the Asian Cup of Nations. And nothing brings more joy, hope and unity than the FIFA World Cup, when all the world joins together for a true celebration", said the FIFA President while discussing with writer Paulo Coelho the steps towards peace in the world that sport can help make.

The Brazilian delegation, which apart from Paulo Coelho also included Romario, now a member of FIFA's Technical and Development Committee, showcased its bid in a 30-minute presentation before the handover of the dossier, which took place in front of a FIFA delegation headed by the FIFA President and FIFA General Secretary Jérôme Valcke.

The next step on the road to the designation of the host of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ will be the inspection visit that FIFA will carry out in Brazil in late August to early September.

Finally, on Monday, 29 October, the CBF will have the opportunity to present their bid to the FIFA Executive Committee, one day before this committee decides the host nation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, completing the process of selection.
